Advanced Product Buyer

The Advanced Product Buyer is responsible for working in close collaboration with the R&D products design team. Researching suppliers that are capable to satisfy the needs of the team. Understand the factors in the supply market that drive affect the cost of the products.


Responsibilities: (not limited to)


Interact with key internal and external customers globally to understand problems, obtain feedback on products, and identify solutions.

Interface closely with Commodity Buyers to ensure alignment of Commodity Strategies

Strong interpersonal communication skills to manage relationships with internal partners and suppliers

Possess a high degree of entrepreneurial drive, with a proven track record of delivering results

Research and channel supplier technology that will benefit the organization

Ensure supplier quality standards are attained (includes certification / documentation, VDO 6.3, TS16949)

Maintain a market view, product, technology, and supplier benchmarking.

Ensure confidentiality of proprietary know-how for the organization and the supplier

Actively support product transfer to core team buyers launch of new programs.

Develop key supplier relationships: visit key suppliers, perform and assessment of the supplier’s capability (supplier scorecard), preform business reviews.

Negotiate with suppliers to maximize corporation’s position on price, delivery, quality and commonality.

Develop value chain cost structures for the commodity. Understand the key cost drivers including key sub level component costs.

Understand the production process for the commodity (value mapping of the process).

Adhere to S&OP policy to verify supplier tooling capacity including review of annual Capex requirements

Develop personal skills through education, training and development, to maintain professional qualification.

Ability to lead and influence others; demonstrated problem-solving skills with business value creation know-how.

Demonstrated market knowledge, strategy development, and implementation with a focus on customer orientation; exceptional planning, organization, and delegation ability


Knowledge Base (not limited to:


University degree in engineering, mechanical or electrical

Minimum 5 years’ experience in purchasing within an ISO/TS16949 manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)

SCMP/CPP designation (preferred)

Able to read ASM drawings/prints

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word,
